Julian Ratcliffe
Julian Ratcliffe joined MCEM in March 2024 after managing the electron microscopy lab at La Trobe University for 4.5 years.
Having started his PhD at Monash University in 2013, Julian was a user of the SEMs at MCEM at the time. As his research moved further towards biomaterials, he started using the cryo TEM capabilities at CSIRO and began working in that facility towards the end of his PhD. After submitting his thesis in 2018, he went on to work in the CSIRO TEM lab full time.
In 2019 Julian moved to La Trobe University as the electron microscopist within the newly formed Bioimaging Platform, and was responsible for managing the TEM, SEM and sample preparation capability.
Having spent years in electron microscopy facilities, Julian has developed a broad range of experience in both biological and materials science applications of electron microscopes and sample preparation.
