As microscopy and imaging generate ever-growing datasets, the challenge of managing, storing, and sharing this wealth of information under FAIR and FAIR/CARE principles has never been greater. How can we ensure reproducibility, optimize metadata harvesting, and implement sustainable data lifecycle policies—while grappling with the costs, infrastructure demands, and environmental impact of PetaByte-scale storage?

This dynamic closing session will bring together leading academic and industry experts to tackle these critical questions. Through a podium discussion, we’ll explore emerging solutions, from institutional frameworks to commercial platforms, aiming to make data more accessible, reusable, and ultimately more powerful—fuelling AI-driven discoveries and maximizing the impact of experimental efforts.

Join us for this forward-looking debate as we confront the grand challenges of data stewardship and shape a collaborative, sustainable future for microscopy, imaging, and microanalysis.

Podium Experts:

  • Dr. Jake Carroll – Director Research Computing Centre - RCC/ UQ representing a large institutional effort/community
  • Dr. David Poger – Data Manager - Representing two national NCRIS networks (MA and NIF) and their demand
  • Dr Rob Clemens – Skills Development Lead - ARDC
  • 2 selected experts from the conference speakers

AMMS Award Presentations:

  • John Farrant Prizes
The John Farrant Prizes were instigated to honour the name of John Farrant and his contribution to the establishment of a thriving electron microscopy community in Australia. The Prizes are funded by a generous gift from Mrs. Patricia Farrant.
  • Trans-Tasman Bursary
This Bursary is support by ProSciTech and is intended to further cooperation between microscopists in Australia and New Zealand. The bursary covers all expenses for economy air travel to the next New Zealand Microscopy Conference (or its equivalent), registration fees, and A$500 for living expenses. This bursary is awarded to an Australian and a New Zealand resident on alternate occasions. All candidates will be judged on an oral summary of the significance of their work, presented at ACMM. Preference will be given for research that is judged to have some enduring value for people and/or the environment.
