Associate Professor Cheng is the theme leader for nanomedicine at the Institute for Biomedical Materials and Devices at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia. As a medicinal chemist and molecular and cell biologist, her research focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer, with a particular emphasis on mesothelioma, a rare cancer. Over the past 15 years, her work has been pivotal in advancing mesothelioma research, leading to two clinical trials initiation. She is one of Australia’s leading scientists in securing funding for mesothelioma research, with her program receiving the majority of available grants for mesothelioma research. A/Professor Cheng leads a multidisciplinary team of postdoctoral researchers, oncologists, and pathologists in clinical trials exploring innovative nanocarriers she developed to enhance the tumor-suppressing effects of miRNA while minimizing side effects. With 97 published research papers, an H-index of 36, and three PCT patents, she is a recognized leader in her field.
