Eleanor Kable
Ellie’s research background is in medical research using confocal and 2-photon microscopy since they became commercially available. Since 2003, she has been the Facility Manager for Sydney Microscopy and Microanalysis. SMM spans six nodes, encompassing >$60 M worth of equipment and supporting over 500 researchers per year. Her work was recognised by VC Award for Outstanding Contribution to Research Services in 2017.
Over the years, Ellie has been active in the Australian microscopy community. She was Secretary of Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Society (AMMS). She has been Chair of the Facility Managers Group of the NCRIS Facility, Microscopy Australia. Ellie was Secretary of the Organising Committee for the 2018 International Microscopy Conference with over 2000 delegates. In 2022, Ellie was the recipient of the AMMS Distinguished Service Award, and the first female to be so acknowledged. Most recently she has been involved with Global Bio Imaging and part of the working group “Career Development for Imaging Core Facility Staff” which has recently released a white paper with recommendations on career progression for imaging scientists.
