Shuichi Onami

Shuichi Onami is a Team Leader at RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research, a Team Leader at RIKEN, TRIP Headquarters, and a Unit Leader at RIKEN Information R&D and Strategy Headquarters. He earned his PhD in Genetics at National Institute of Genetics in 1998 and joined the ERATO Kitano Symbiotic Systems Project in 1999. He started his own laboratory at Keio University in 2002 and joined RIKEN in 2006. He invented an automated 4D cell tracking system for C. elegans embryos and pioneered quantitative modeling in C. elegans embryos. He is the founder and the project leader of the SSBD, a public platform for sharing and reusing bioimaging data, and a leader of the GIDE, the global image data ecosystem. His current research interests include predictive modeling of biological systems and its applications to human biology.
